- Latino U.S.A. is an attempt by Ilan Stavans and Lalo Alcaraz to capture the joys, nuances, and often erased multiple dimensions of Latino culture within the context of the English language. The wide range of topics includes Manifest Destiny, William Carlos Williams, Cesar Chavez, Desi Aras, the Spanish-American War, the Mexican-American War, Chicano activist, Selena, and the Dream Act. The graphic novel is narrated by a cast of sometimes contradicting characters consisting of a toucan, Latino comedian Cantinfals, a luchado, Captain America, a calavera, and the cartoonist and author themselves.
